Rank MI Vote PAC endorsed candidates have pledged their support for a future legislation that will ensure local control of elections and allow Michigan’s municipalities to implement Ranked Choice Voting. Voters in five Michigan cities have already adopted Ranked Choice Voting for local elections, but conflicting statutory language has prevented implementation.

In April, the Michigan Democratic Party voted unanimously in support of a resolution calling on the Michigan Legislature to pass Ranked Choice Voting enabling legislation. Recently, they were joined by the Libertarian Party of Michigan. The Green Party of Michigan also supports Ranked Choice Voting.

How to apply for an endorsement

Candidates for the Michigan Legislature who wish to apply for Rank MI Vote PAC’s endorsement should complete the online questionnaire here.

Rank MI Vote PAC only endorses candidates for Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, and State Legislature.

Endorsement process

To be considered for an endorsement from Rank MI Vote PAC in the 2026 primary or general election, a candidate must complete our candidate questionnaire and/or a pledge card to support legislation allowing the implementation of Ranked Choice Voting for local elections.

Questionnaires were drafted for candidates seeking the offices of Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, State Senator, and State Representative. Questions evaluated candidates’ support for local, state, and federal adoption and implementation of Ranked Choice Voting in state and federal primary and general elections, as well as local elections, and included key questions to ensure that candidates considered for endorsement also support the Michigan Voting Rights Act, oppose the federal Make Elections Great Again Act, and oppose unjust and undemocratic attempts at voter suppression.

Candidate questionnaires were developed by Rank MI Vote PAC’s leadership and approved by the Board of Rank MI Vote PAC. They were sent electronically to over 400 major party general election candidate seeking the aforementioned political offices, and will be sent to minor party and independent candidates as those qualifying deadlines and contact information becomes available.

Questionnaires are reviewed by the Candidate Evaluation Committee whose members include:

• 1 or more PAC Board Members
• 2 or more Regional Team leaders
• Political Outreach Coordinators (labor, small business, faith, Black, Latino, etc.)

Regional and local volunteer leaders were contacted to provide input and recommendations to the Candidate Evaluation Committee. The Candidate Evaluation Committee makes endorsements recommendations to the PAC board on a rolling basis.
