Rank MI Vote Recruits Over 2,000 People in Single Weekend
Volunteer organization nets 2,021 new sign-ups at 31 events over weekend
Rank MI Vote (RMV) — a Michigan-based, volunteer-run, non-partisan, non-profit organization — harnessed the energy of massive statewide protests this weekend, adding 2,021 people to the organization at 31 events across the state of Michigan.
“In a time of rising turmoil and uncertainty, it’s very clear our current system is wholly incapable of addressing the issues that matter most to voters. People across Michigan aren’t waiting for a corrupt and ineffective political system to solve these problems for them: they’re taking the lead themselves,” said Pat Zabawa, Rank MI Vote Executive Director. “When thousands of Michiganders said yes to Rank MI Vote in a single weekend, it’s a clear sign that people are hungry for real, tangible change — and ready to get their hands dirty to make it happen.”
Rank MI Vote, a volunteer-run and volunteer-led grassroots organization, is working to enact ranked choice voting in Michigan through a constitutional amendment. To qualify that initiative for the November 2026 ballot, the organization needs to collect nearly 500,000 valid signatures from Michigan voters this year — and Rank MI Vote plans to put their new influx of volunteer capacity to work collecting those signatures this spring and summer.
Ranked choice voting has been shown to promote civility, cooperation, and more representative government. It gives voters more choice and ensures elections reflect the will of the voters.
It’s currently used statewide in Maine and Alaska and cities across the country, including New York City. 5 Michigan cities have elected to use ranked choice voting in their municipal elections but are prohibited from doing so by the state.
