If passed, Irvine would be one of two Orange County cities to have the system.
The voting method is used in 49 jurisdictions across the U.S., including California and Minneapolis.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Kelly Morrison (MN-03) introduced the Voter Choice Act, which makes it easier for states and local governments to implement ranked choice voting.
The system did what it was designed to do. It produced a winner who has broader support among the electorate.
The petition calls for a referendum on ranked choice voting in City of Albany elections. It now heads to the Albany Common Council.
